Basmati Rice Water Calculator
Calculate the right water-to-rice ratio for fluffy or softer basmati cooked on an induction hob.
How to cook basmati rice on an induction hob
- Rinse the rice under cold water 2–3 times until the water runs clearer.
- Measure the water using the calculator (e.g. 1.6× the rice weight for fluffy rice).
- Add rice and water to a saucepan with a flat base and a tight-fitting lid. Add a pinch of salt if you like.
- Place the pan on the induction hob and heat on high until the water comes to a boil.
- Stir once, then turn the induction hob right down low, put the lid on, and let it gently simmer.
- Cook for 10–12 minutes (for basmati) until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender. 10 min
- Turn the hob off and leave the pan covered for 5–10 minutes to steam. 5 min
- Fluff the rice with a fork and serve.
